Animal Husbandry

Current State

Local farmers raise native cows, goats, sheep, and donkeys. These are small scale, subsistence flocks and herds. A typical farmer has half a dozen animals. CPG has a small scale model chicken coop that was designed for extension and demonstration.

Future Plans

CPG and MCHDP hope to establish a milk-goat breeding program. Goats thrive in the area better than other livestock. Improving the local goat herds is one solution for increasing the locals’ access to milk and milk proteins.
